Steven D. Schmitt, Baseball Historian

Welcome to the I Love Baseball Players Wiki[]

I am an avid sports historian, particularly the biographical history of professional and college baseball in America. My baseball research has covered barnstorming teams of the 1930s, the history of the now-defunct University of Wisconsin baseball team, and the bonus players on the 1957 Milwaukee Braves.

Original historical documentation of baseball and interviews with former players tell us what the game has meant to us and to those who played it. We learn that, although baseball has evolved into a multi-billion dollar industry, the game is still played between the white lines with bases 90 feet apart and that owners and players have always haggled over salaries, large and small. Anyone with an idea for a biographical sketch, an original story of a team or player, or an analysis of a season is invited to contribute. Let's PLAY BALL!
